Mechanics have a love/ hate relationship with their tools. They love trying out shiny new tools- but hate how much money they cost!

In fact, I think that probably in more than any other profession mechanics get pretty screwed over in the equipment department.

When you know nothing about cars even the smallest jobs can seem daunting. That's why I've started a Car DIY section on our blog to help enthusiasts learn more about their cars and show you a few simple things that practically anyone can do.

Disclaimer: I mean skint here as in "don't have any spare cash" as opposed to, you know, homeless. 

As an car enthusiast I love making my Car DIY posts for all you people who want to be more involved with and knowledgeable about cars- but I realise at some point you'll probably need expert help. 

Picture the scene: The sun is shining and you're ready to cruise. But wait, what's that smell?!

It may well be the smell of your beloved classic car going up in flames for want of a little maintenance before hitting the road. Yikes!

In this post I'll explain why a poorly maintained car is basically a death trap and what you need to be doing about it.

It's an old cliche that as a country we're very bad at negotiating, maybe that's why we're "a nation of shopkeepers"? (True story: my friend once tried to haggle the price of a fridge for me in Currys. The shop assistant told him she'd be right back and then literally went and stood awkwardly down a different aisle to avoid him. Harsh!) But running a business you quickly realise that practically everything IS negotiable and if you don't make the move you could be losing out.

Here's another of my Car DIY tutorials where I explain how to do some simple stuff on your car. Last time we were changing a flat tyre like a boss. Today we'll be trying something a bit more delicate that will require some patience (but still practically anyone can do)- replacing a car headlight bulb.
